This is our filmed evaluation in which we had to do to support our written or typed evaluation. This is where we as a group are evaluating what we had put into the evaluation. We are talking our audience through every decision that we had made throughout oyr time in making the production whilst also explaining about our research and what happened after we had finished making the performance. The whole point of evaluating what we have done is so that we can see in the future what we did well and what we could have improved on and also to see if we was successful in reaching our chosen target audience. We used images when referencing a particular product, website or anywhere we thought was necessary to add in an image of it so that it makes it more effective on the audience.
This is our new and improved magazine cover. We were advised that we had to add colour to our cover as we were not allowed to have the black and white image in which we made originally. The main colour that we decided to use for our poster was red. This is because it combines well with Black and they are also colours which are used quite a lot with Thriller films. We kept all of our images as we though they were good but all we needed to do was to add some colour to make it more interesting.
This is our new and improved film trailer poster. Our teacher advised us that we should make these changes as our old film poster could have been massively improved and we didn’t have the vital information in which this one has now got. In our original poster, we didn’t include the cast and crew information in which is normally found on a film poster purely because we didn’t use enough references and research into what a film poster normally has on it. We also got rid of the four clips at the top of the poster as it made it look more unprofessional and we decided that we should just use the image of the two faded characters with the local misty background made to be more significant. This signifies to the audience that our film was produced locally. We also decided to add ‘From The Creators of When The Clock Strikes 12’ in because it shows that we have made previous productions and also most posters include what other films that particular company has done before. It also normally includes a catch line in which will interest the audience so we also decided that this should be another thing that we added to our poster. Our line is ‘Some People Just Can’t Handle Love’.
This is the magazine cover for our film trailer ‘Serial Differences’. We wanted to use a magazine that is quite popular with audiences and that is what led us to choosing Empire, who are a well respected film preview and review magazine company. Empire has many thousands and millions of readers from around the world so it would be the perfect company to help us promote our film. Creating a magazine would give a large audience the chance to see what our film is all about and could intrigue them enough to make them want to watch more than just the trailer and actually go to the cinema and watch it for themselves. Word of mouth will be used by the regular readers of the magazine, who will view our product and pass on information about it to their friends and family, which will help our production gain a bigger audience. Creating a magazine cover is just as effective as creating a poster promoting the product. The magazine cover is a lot different to the poster, purely because of the fact that is has a dark background. This suggests that our film has a dark side and that is backed up by the fact that the dark character is hooded and that shows he is a mysterious character and it makes the lady character look like shes the good one.
This is our poster for our film trailer ‘Serial Differences’. The whole point of creating the poster was to attract particular audiences to watch our film so it becomes popular. We could either aim for a specific audience in which we did (15+) or aim for a larger audience in which we also wanted to do. The audience that this poster would probably attract would be teenagers. There can be many ways to pull in an audience for a media product such as ours, but one of the ones that we have chosen is to create a poster. A poster would be able to attract a larger audience because it can be posted online on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google and our own proper blog sites etc. It could be promoted in hundreds of different ways. We wanted to make our poster as eye catching as we possibly could and we added effects such as transparency and blurred text. This shows that we can use effects to create a successful poster. The background of our poster is a foggy white. This is because it makes the poster stand our more, especially with the black writing over the top as it makes the writing more noticeable and an important part of the poster. The background is also of the local area, which suggests that our film is made locally and therefore most liekly to attract the community audience as well as the internet audience. We also added printscreens of shots that come from the film. This includes the car as that is a significant item that is included in our production in the running over scene. Also having the two lead characters on the poster creates effect because it tells the audience that the plot is based around them and also suggests that there is dark secrets in the storyline.
For our final task for our film trailer, we had to get some audience research to see what they thought about our film so that we have some video evidence. To do this, we needed to interview three people and the three people that we interviewed are Will, Mohammed and Lee. We did this so that they could tell us what they thought about the film via a series of questions that we asked them. The questions that we asked were:
- What did you like about our film trailer?
- What didn’t you like about our film trailer?
- Do you think we managed to subvert the Sci-Fi Thriller genre?
- Did the trailer intrigue you enough to want to watch the full film?
- If we was to do this trailer again, what could we improve on?
It was important that we got some kind of information because we would be able to improve on it if there was to ever come a time where we have to make a film trailer from scratch and also to help us ensure that it is good enough to get the best possible grade from it. The questions were all linked to the film and were relevant to the information that we wanted to find out of the audience. The interviewees were selected at random as we wanted to get proper information and if we had just picked our friends then it may be slighly biased and we wanted to avoid that.
This is our evaluation for our media film trailer in which we have recently finished. This basically evaluates everything that we have done in the project and why we chose the decisions that we had. The prinstcreens below will explain everything that we have done in each slide.
Slide 1 – This is the opening slide which tells us what the presentation is, who it’s done by and also what the name of the title of the film is. This also includes the picture of our magazine cover and poster to show the audience that the evaluation is about the same thing that we have done.
Slide 2 – This is the slide which introduces what the evaluation is about and tells the audience who is involved with the film, what genre is the film and a short synopsis of what happens in the film. This is to set the scene so that the audience knows what happens and they can see how well we evaluated it. It also has the link of the trailer available for the audience to see if they wished.
Slide 3 – This slide is answering the first question which is at the top of the page for those who want to see what we were asked. This is basically telling the audience about what we included in the trailer and also what is needed to make a successful film trailer that is of a good standard. We also explained a few of our decisions and why we decided on them. We also compared our film company to other bigger well known film making companies.
Slide 4 – This slides is part two of the first question. This is basically explaining more about what genre we decided to choose and also why we decided to make a sub genre after the failure of our last production that was a sub genre. It was also explaining about the conventions of these genres. This also explains about the age groups and what kind of films fit their age groups and also what ages group we decided to put our film trailer in.
Slide 5 – This slide is part three of the first question. This is showing some shots from the film that we have used in our trailer. These are some of the most interesting shots from within the trailer and also the one’s which shows what’s going on at each point in the trailer. It is basically backing up all the conventions of our chosen genres.
Slide 6 – This slide id the final slide that is answering the first question. This slide concentrates more on the actual real media products that we used for inspiration in the making of our film trailer. It is directly comparing our trailer to theirs and how we made it to be as successful as we wanted it to be. It also contains the links to the three templates that we used for the audience to see.
Slide 7 – This slide is about what ancillary texts that we used to promote our product. The ancillary texts that we used were the poster, the actual trailer itself and also the magazine cover. These are all good ways we could use to promote our product. This is explaining what is on our poster and magazine cover and why we chose those decisions.
Slide 8 – This slide is the second part to the second question. This slide is more in depth detail about why we made the decisions on the poster and the magazine cover. We have also included the final images of our poster and magazine cover so that the audience will be able to see what we have come up with and weather it is effective or not.
Slide 9 – This is the first slide on the third question. This slide was yet again based on what the audience would think of our trailer and if it was suitable for the target audience. This slide was also about the other methods that we took to gain audience feedback on our product. This slide also shows examples of the questionnaire we made and the results that we got for it.
Slide 10 – This is the second part to the third question. This is explaining about the random sampling method that we used to choose our people to interview and it shows the people who were chosen. It also shows what questions were asked in the interview so that we could gain a huge amount of information that we would need for our trailer. It also has the links to both interviews that we conducted.
Slide 11 – This is the third and final slide answering the third question. This is explaining about how we will promote and exhibit our product so that we can pull in a successful audience. It also explained about the interview that we conducted after we had finished filming our trailer. This was to see what the audience thought after the trailer was finished. We just wanted to know what was good and what was bad about the trailer.
Slide 12 – This slide is the first slide of the fourth question. This is explaining all the different methods that we used to construct our trailer. This includes using websites such as film review websites to look at other films that are quite similar to the product that we are looking to create. This also explains about what software we used to create our product to make it look as good and as professional as possible.
Slide 13 – This is the second slide which is answering the fourth question. This part is more about the planning of our product that anything else. This explains in detail about the three act structure that we used to plot and create our film to make it make sense.
Slide 14 – This slide is the third slide answering question four and the second slide about the planning of our product. This is explaining the storyboards that we had to create which fits in with the three act structure. It also shows examples of our storyboards and they are each the first page of each act.
Slide 15 – This is the fourth slide which is answering the fourth question. This is also the third slide of the planning of our trailer. This explains about the edited animatic version and also contains three printscreens of the animatic that we created. It also has the link to the animatic which we created and put on to YouTube.
Slide 16 – This is the final slide of the evaluation, and the fifth one which answers the fourth question. This is just about the final evaluation we did which also contains a link to the filmed version and also where you can find and access any of my work.
This is our groups finished film trailer which we decided to name “Serial Differences”. We decided to call it that because it ties in with the basic plot of the production, which is about a couple who have many differences occuring in their relationship but it’s alot more serious that it may seem for Steph as she soon realises that not only is she reliving the same day over and over again, but as each day repeats, her life is put more and more danger. Before we could film anything, we first had to come up with an interesting plot that fits in with our chosen genre; which was Sci-Fi thriller. We originally came up with a plot about two lesbians who were unfortunatley stuck in a bizzare time loop and the only way they could escape, was to kill. We had come up with that particular plot because it was unusual and we wanted to show something different and do something that had never been done before, but nothing went to plan so we changed the plot but kept the time loop because as a group, we still wanted to make it interesting to the audience. During filming, we had come up with different ideas so we decided to film them; these ideas being the main protagonist (Steph) walking through a deserted pathway and getting grabbed from behind and killed. Another idea that we came up with was about there being different suspects as to who is trying to kill Steph. We chose to show this in our production by creating Steph and having her character as this mean spirited young girl who goes around callously bullying and hurting not only her boyfriend, but his friend Siobhan (myself) by having Steph push me through a door, tripping me up in the corridoor causing me to fall over and barging me causing my books to fly open. As a group we thought this would be a good idea, especially for the audience because having different suspects and not knowing who the real killer is, it leaves the production on a cliff hanger which will keep the audience interested as they will keep asking questions as to who done it? and because the production is only a trailer, the ending isn’t revealed. One of the main ideas that we really focused on as a group was thinking of different ways in which Steph could be killed, because we wanted to show her getting frustrated at the fact that everytime she gets killed, she relives the same day over and over again until eventually she realises that she had to stop the serial killer from killing her for good. Overall i think our groups film trailer is very good and interesting, however i think there could be one or two imporvements made; for example when Steph is walking on her own through the desserted pathway and the killer grabs her, i think there should be some sort of tense music to show the audience that something is going to happen and when the killer is seen appearing from around the corner after watching her, there should be a different piece of music that lasts about 3 seconds to show that he is the protagonist.
We have had a conversation with our teacher after he checked over and helped us edit more of our trailer and he came to the conclusion that we needed to make more changes as the story didnt really turn out the way that we wanted to and that it didnt really make sense. Together we made up a list of what we need when we go off to refilm our trailer to make it more exciting and so that it makes sense. The list is as follows:
We need to have more shots of Steph treating me badly to show off more that she is the bad character and im initially the good guy. To do this we need to include her being violent towards me, possibly add in scenes where i try to be romantic by cooking her a meal and buying her gifts which to her, isnt good enough. We also need shots of Steph flirting with other guys to show that she isnt fazed by being in a relationship and also to show just how bad she treats me. An example of this could be a gas man.
We also need to have shots of Steph being killed by the serial killer, which turns out to be me, but Steph or the audience dont know it yet. We need to see Steph feeling sorry for me, who turns out to be the serial killer and kills her.
We also need to add shots of Steph trying to solve the mystery as to who killed her. We also need to show that each time she tries to figure it out, she gets killed in a different way.
And finally, we need to show Steph discovering who it is but not revealing it to the audience to keep it on a cliffhanger.
In today’s lesson, we used Final Cut Express on the Apple Mac to complete any editing that we needed to be completed. We only needed to edit particular scenes because we had already filmed and edited some scenes because we had frees and the time to edit them sooner. We edited most of what we needed to and now all we need to do is to just make a few changes and also to add on the credits and film information. We also need to check with our teacher to make sure he thinks that the editing is good enough for our film trailer.
